Glasgow Street Outreach, founded by Stephen Webster in 1994, is a Christian response to the needs of vulnerable people on the streets of Glasgow. Our aim is to build loving relationships with hurting and isolated people and to help them realise their true potential and worth as children of God. We meet poeple where they are in life whether they are homeless, working in street prostitution, struggling with an addiction controlled lifestyle, depressed or disillusioned with life and we support them as individuals to find life in all its fullness in Jesus Christ. John 10:10
Our caring outreach supplies people with hot food, sleeping materials such as sleeping bags, roller mats, survival bags, warm clothing, helpful literature including links to social services etc. We meet as a team of volunteers and patrol the city centre areas in Glasgow on a Saturday evening every week to build loving relationships with those in greatest need.
Over the years many lives have been touched, saved and transformed through our caring street outreach. We feel we are there to demonstrate the Jesus in us still walks the streets, heals the sick, sets the oppressed free and satisfies the spiritually hungry. His death and resurrection make it possible for each of us, regardless of our life history, to enjoy an intimate relationship with God.
Our aim is to demonstrate His love, power and miracles through the caring lives of our trained volunteers.
Our volunteers are all Spirit-filled Christians who have a personal relationship with Jesus. They are all trained to listen, care and be as helpful as we possibly can to each individual we meet on the street. We have links with the following Christian organisations:
- Healing Rooms Scotland
- Glasgow Street Pastors
- Light and Life
We are Christians who come together in unity from many different Churches including Catholic and Protestant denominations. We do not peddle any particular religious viewpoint but rather choose to emphasise what we all have in common which is a love for our Saviour Jesus Christ and a love for the people of Glasgow. We believe that God values and cares for the whole person.
What We Do
- We support homeless people we know well through loss and bereavement
- We provide advocacy for them should they need independent support
- We link them into other city centre groups for longer term support such as respite care and support groups such as Stouros, Freedom in Christ, Alpha groups, City Mission, Wayside, and Lodging Home Mission
